The smelter uses an ancient technique dating back 5,500 years. The lost-wax casting technique allows him to transform a wax object into its metal replica. The smelter meticulously places each wax object on a casting tree, which is then immersed in plaster. Placed in a kiln, the wax melts and the plaster hardens, creating the perfect negative of the tree. Molten metal is then injected into the plaster. The magic happens at the unmolding stage when the smelter removes the plaster and reveals the metal sculptures.

Cutting is the first step in jewelry making; it allows for the removal of casting sprues and the sculpting of shapes in the metal. A true workhorse for jewelers, the wire cutter is one of the most frequently used tools by artisans.

As the molten metal cools, it solidifies, leaving a rough, grainy surface. The jeweler files the metal to remove these casting marks. They use increasingly fine abrasive papers called emery paper to smooth the metal's surface and remove all imperfections.

The art of gemstone setting requires great dexterity and concentration from the gemstone-setter. Each piece of jewelry is set in cement or ring clamp to hold and protect it. The stone is then placed and adjusted with millimeter precision. Using a graver, the gem-setter shapes the gold grains that will hold the stone.
